People Behind the Product

Hi, my name is Sofia Gerrard and I am a senior at Staples High School. I am on both the Cross Country and Track teams at Staples, but my favorite sport is skiing. I have been skiing since I was five years old and started ski racing a few years later. So naturally, I joined the ski team my freshman year of high school. I love going up to Mt. Southington a couple of days a week and practicing the race course with my friends.

Another hobby of mine is reading and writing. I like a few classics, like Pride and Prejudice, as well as Agatha Christie Mysteries. I have always been writing-oriented, so I do not mind the occasional essay or so, but what I truly enjoy is journaling about different experiences. I write about anything, from exciting thoughts about my day to my ventures in Costa Rica.

Anyways, I am really excited about continuing with the events aspect of Our Town Crier, as I have been doing that for a couple of months now. I like seeing the different things going around town. I hope everyone enjoys the different events and even gets a chance to go to a few! I also can’t wait for people to check out my new blog post-Farm Stands & Food Trucks. Thanks!

Hi there, my name is Julianna Raho and I am a junior at Staples High School.  I dance at Westport’s Academy of Dance, I’m an active piano player, I played on the Staples Girls Volleyball team, and I was a competitive gymnast for many years.  You can often find me binge watching The Office or baking a batch of homemade cookies.  I’ve lived in Westport for the past 10 years of my life, and I’m beyond proud to call it home.  Our Town Crier is just one example of how close-knit and wonderful our town truly is.  As an active shopaholic and foodie, I can easily say that Downtown Westport is one of the places that I adore most.  Supporting local business is great and I’m so proud that I’m able to that by posting, snapping, typing, and hitting ‘send’.  One of my absolute favorite things to do is to take photos.  Whether it’s on my camera roll, snap chat, or posting to Instagram, I love having the memories and knowing how powerful an image can be.  Just one photo can introduce people to new things, or it could show the beauty in everyday life.  Being a part of the Our Town Crier team is something that I’m thrilled about; because I can express my admiration for my town and bring great businesses and even greater people together.

My name is Amanda Troelstra and I am a junior at Staples High School. I enjoy playing three varsity sports which are volleyball, basketball, and track and field, and I love to travel. I work on the Facebook page for Our Town Crier, and also make some of the banners that are seen on the website. I enjoy making the banners because it challenges me to learn new things about Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and change the way I view pictures and images. It is fun to make the banners because once I have finished, I can see my hard work published on the website!

Hi, my name is Jenna Doran and I am a junior at Staples High School. I am on the Staples Varsity Cheerleading team as a flyer, and I am also a volunteer for Westport EMS. I have been a volunteer as an emergency medical responder since April of 2016. For Our Town Crier I manage the Instagram page. This gives me the opportunity to go around Fairfield County and discover cool events, shops, or anything interesting in the community and share it with our followers. I enjoy learning something new about Fairfield county with every post.
